Busty gets down on her knees to get some fun in the sun

busty idolDid I ever tell you that I believe the DMA is one of the finest trade bodies in the world, that the people there are all really professional, great at their jobs and do sterling work for everyone in the industry? No? Shite.
Many of you may be wondering why this column has suddenly turned into a glowing endorsement for our industry trade body; let me put you out of your misery with the three words: DMA Summer Lunch (actually it’s two words and an acronym for you pedants).
That’s right folks, it’s that time of year again when, in the fine words of the DMA’s events team, “we invite you back to the Pavilion at the Tower of London, a marvellous setting for our annual gathering of marketing’s best and brightest”.
Apparently “there will be garden games and entertainment, all set in the grounds of a spectacular stalwart of London’s rich history. Your ticket to the Summer Lunch gets you, drinks and a three course lunch;  a ringside seat to hear the wit and wisdom of our special guest speaker; and the best chance to network in the sunshine with top UK marketers”.
Of course, there is one small snag – it costs £200 + VAT for members; £300+ VAT for non-members – and if you think I’ve got that sort of cash swilling around in my pocket, think again…I’m bleedin’ skint on account of the fact that I work for a boss who makes Mike Ashley seem generous. No wonder Lloyd James is flogging his house, it’s probably the only way he can afford to buy a ticket.
Still, you never know, this little plug may well secure me a free place. (It’s OK, I’m not proud, I don’t even mind sitting with the losers at the back).
But before you all book up for “some fun in the sun”, spare a little thought for little ol’ Busty. Over the past few years this event has proved so popular that I haven’t even had a sniff of a ticket as it has been a complete sell-out.
Will I really have to stare down from the Tower of London wall again? Surely not…
