Burn boosts digital offering with agency acquisition

tony_may_smallBrand response agency Burn, set up by former Black Cat duo Julie Cheetham and Guy McConnell, has expanded its digital offering through the acquisition of digital agency Future Building.
The deal sees Tony May, who launched Future Building five years ago and was chief executive, join Burn as head of digital.
Prior to that May was chief technology officer at recipe sharing website MyDish, a senior consultant at IT consultancy Maddox Ford and head of IT at the first peer-to-peer lender, Zopa.
Cheetham and McConnell launched Burn in 2005, having worked together at Black Cat. They went their separate ways when the agency was sold to JWT in 2003, with Cheetham staying on but McConnell set up a creative and strategic marketing consultancy, Firespark.
The Richmond-based agency’s clients include RHS, British Gas, O2, Avis, Club Wembley and British Heart Foundation. Many of the senior team are former “Black Catters”, including head of data Juliet Sparks and head of creative Jon Watts.
Cheetham said: “We are delighted to bring the talents of Tony and his team into Burn. We’re all about skilled specialists working together on truly integrated marketing strategies and campaigns, to ‘join the dots’ for clients. This move augments our digital capabilities so that now virtually any digital initiative is in scope as part of our brand response approach.”
