Still plenty of cash in blowing smoke up adland’s arse

foxy 414“Thanks to all of those who’ve supported and celebrated with us, for the stories you’ve shared, and the impact we’ve been able to make together.” An acceptance speech for a Nobel Peace Prize Winner, or perhaps an Academy Award, or a Grammy Award or even a Pulitzer Prize?

Are you mad? This is from the gracious LinkedIn post, celebrating three whole years of The Creative Salon Worldwide, the home of commercial creativity, of course, from the equally gracious Sonoo Singh (who has written a staggering 39 articles in three years, just over one a month).

No word from co-founder Claire Beale, though, which, to be fair, is true to form as she’s only written 17 articles in three years (just one every two months).

Now, obviously they are doing a lot of work “behind the scenes” but it does make you wonder who is doing all the real work, loading up countless press releases verbatim in pursuit of “the impact we’ve made together”.

But, dear readers, there’s more. According to Companies House data, their net current assets are a whopping £408,473.00. I must admit, I never gave them a chance as I didn’t think agencies were that stupid. Still, I guess it’s proof if ever there was that there’s still plenty of cash to be made by blowing smoke up adland’s arse and nearly as much as McContent & Design (remember them?) made last month.

Yet this could all be about to change because Creative Salon Worldwide is upping the ante by bringing in a couple of very expensive “heavy hitters”.

And I quote: “We couldn’t be prouder to announce that we’ve hired my good friend and former colleague Stephen Lepitak as our editorial director [yep, you guessed it, the former editor of The Drum who once took on WACL and lost very badly] and have also managed to lure the much-loved Jeremy Lee to come on board full time as our consultancy director [to be fair we thought Jezza had been there the whole time].

“They join our brilliant crew – Avnie Bansal, Dani Gibson and Conor Nichols.” [No doubt the last three are the ones doing all the real work, loading up countless press releases verbatim and hailing “the impact we’ve made together”.]

Whether the Creative Salon Worldwide bank balance will be quite so healthy once those two lunch luvvies jump aboard the gravy train and get their noses in the trough is another matter.

But, as Sonoo confirms: “Creative Salon Worldwide is very much an act of love for both Claire Beale and I and this fabulous group of people together at CS is a signal that there’s so much more to come.”

In fact, you could say, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
