Publicis Chemistry has picked up the Gatwick Airport marketing account, following a pitch – the first win for the agency since appointing Mike Welsh as chief executive last month.
Gatwick has briefed the agency to devise a number of campaigns to both business and consumer markets. The work will promote it as London’s airport of choice, with a focus on its expanding retail and restaurant offering.
The agency’s first activity will to position Gatwick as a shopping and eating destination, with a campaign which will include outdoor media as well as online, with social and mobile executions.
Andy Lewis, the head of marketing at Gatwick, said: “Publicis Chemistry really stood out for their experience in both travel and retail industries. For us, it’s about doing all we can to significantly enhance the passenger journey to, through and from the airport.
“We want to encourage holidaymakers and business travellers alike to make the most of their time at the airport before they board their flight.”
Welsh was confirmed as chief executive in June following the departure of the previous management team of Joe Garton and Diane Charlton. He joined the agency back in 2008 but had been heading up the Renault account since its merger with Chemistry and subsequent rebranding.
