Tesco has pulled the plug on its Hudl tablet – just days after admitting it will not launch a Hudl3 – by confirming it has sold out of Hudl 2s and has no plans to restock the shelves.
The original Tesco Hudl tablet launched in September 2013, selling 750,000 units. At the time, then marketing chief Matt Atkinson claimed the Hudl tablet was way more than just a product launch; saying it was designed to build “a single and direct relationship with customers”, amid claims it could be a “huge seller”.
Then came the all-singing, all-dancing Hudl2 in September 2014, which Tesco stressed was built with personalisation in mind, offering customers easier access to Tesco services, such as banking, shopping and its loyalty scheme.
The device offered information such as how many Clubcard points customers have, when their next Tesco online order was being delivered and how far through reading an e-book they were.
However, it appears to have fallen victim to new boss Dave Lewis’ back to basics approach.
In a statement, the company said: “We have sold out of Hudl2 tablets and will no longer be selling it in our stores or online. We would like to assure customers that we will continue to provide technical support and help to all of our customers who have purchased a Hudl.”
