Bonjour, bonjour, bonjour mes amis et bienvenue dans la chronique de cette semaine, qui vous parvient directement de Paris…
Yes, you guessed it, this week we’re channelling the City of Love as the world gears up for the 2024 Olympic Games. Well, I say channelling, because actually we’re still in McKelvey’s front room but surrounded by French paraphernalia.
Sadly, the expense account couldn’t quite stretch to us relocating to global centre for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture, complete with 19th-century cityscape, crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine.
However, the tricolour bunting is up and we’re fully stocked with cheese (Reblochon, Rochefort, Camembert, Brie de Meaux, Époisses de Bourgogne and Munster) and wine (Chateau Barrail Tapon, Le Rosé de Jean-Mi, Château La Verrière Bordeaux Supérieur Red 2019; Château Les Ricaudelles; Maison Saint Aix Rosé, and Domaine de Brondeau Lalande) and raring to go.
As you can see, we’ve blown the budget but we’re worth it.
Now, apparently, this summer of sport has inspired many people to take up sport, with half of under-25s who have watched events on TV, in pubs and on their devices and nearly two-thirds of spectators who have attended a live major sporting event saying they feel motivated to start a new sport or exercise regime.
Never ones to miss an opportunity – and thankfully help to pad out this column – the London Medical Laboratory has chipped in with some top advice.
Clinical lead Dr Avinash Hari Narayanan said: “It’s no surprise that this remarkable summer has inspired us to take up a sport or just get fitter and it’s not just younger Brits who have got the sport and fitness bug. 30% of Brits of any age group who have watched a major recent sporting event at home say they are more likely to get involved.
“However and wherever people have watched this summer’s sporting events, the fact that they have inspired a renewed interest in participation and keeping fit is excellent news, in terms of physical and mental health.”
But where’s the cheesy marketing plug, I hear you ask? Don’t fret, here it comes…
“Whether you are 21 or 71, it’s always a good idea to get a snapshot of your current fitness levels before embarking on a new sport or fitness routine.” And the best way? Why a London Medical Laboratory blood test, of course.
Mind you, after all that wine and cheese, that’s the last thing I will be needing…
Passez un week-end incroyable!
