Communisis has strengthened its range of data and creative services with a double acquisition, according to its upbeat interim report, which claims that, despite the general doom and gloom in the market, new business opportunities are strong.
The acquisitions, made by £200m-turnover Leeds-based marketing services provider in the past three months, are designed to continue its diversification away from just print to boost its website building, digital app and social media capabilities.
This strategy kicked off back in December 2008, when the company paid £12.6m for Absolute Intuistic. The latest deals are for London-based specialist software production agency Kieon, which also has an offshore development facility in Bangalore, India, and specialist social media agency Yomego, which has offices in Glasgow and London. The combined value of the deals is nearly £1.6m.
In its trading update, Communisis added that the £10m installation of two T400 high-speed colour digital presses at its Liverpool site was on schedule. The first digital press commenced live production in February and the second is due to be fully operational in June.
Trading in the first quarter was described as encouraging and Communisis said it was confident the breadth and scale of its offer would drive further new business wins.
In the year to 31 December, 2011 Communisis posted pre-tax profit of £4.2m on turnover of £208m. The company’s share price rose by 17% last week.
