The gambling site has only just alerted customers to the potential leak some 19 months after the original incident, but Bet24.com maintain that they have been taking other measures to ensure site security.
The official warning follows news of the arrest of a suspect found in possession of “unauthorised copies of personal customer information relating to various companies, including Bet24”.
Bet24.com has confirmed that the data included customer names, addresses, emails, user account IDs, account passwords and encrypted payment card numbers, all of which had been used in fraud on the site.
“The stolen information is known to have been used to access a limited number of customers’ accounts, third-party accounts and personal email accounts,” said a security notice from the site. “A small number of customers have alerted us to unauthorised activity and we have reimbursed them for any financial loss incurred.”
The company maintains that it is working with unnamed police authorities as it continues to investigate the breach and catch those responsible.
