Bosses ‘work over 11 hours a day’

creative deptThe owners of marketing businesses in the UK are working an average of 56 hours a week – equivalent to 11.2 hours day – giving them a working week which is 75% longer than most British workers.
The findings have been revealed in a new report, commissioned by call handling solution firm Penelope, which found that only entrepreneurs in the construction industry were found to be working longer, at 62 hours a week.
The trend of working long hours shows no sign of slowing down; recent employment statistics from the Office of National Statistics show a 0.3% increase in hours worked in the last three months alone.
The Penelope survey results highlight the commitment and investment workers in the marketing industry are making in order to make their businesses a success.
Business owners are in a virtuous cycle when it comes to time and money, as 61% of marketing business owners state that they would prefer to have more money than time. The results show that business owners are clearly willing to invest personal time in order to reap the long-term benefit of having more money.
Penelope co-founder Ed Reeves said: “These results show the hard work and dedication being invested by business owners in the marketing industry. Being the owner and operator of a business means taking on multiple roles and being everything to every customer. As such, many of these owners are both time and cash-strapped and they need to make the most of every day because the amount of time being squeeze into the working week is enormous.”
