Charities offered £60k data bursary

Data management consultancy and services firm The REaD Group is launching a £60,000 ‘charity data bursary’ with the aim of helping third-sector organisations drive more revenue and loyalty from their supporter database.
Open to any UK registered charity, the company is offering a total of £60,000 worth of data management consultancy and services – £50,000 for larger charities and £10,000 for smaller charities.
The REaD Group claims that the Bursary Consultancy team will help improve the quality of supporter data as well as applying insight to discover typical supporter journeys to improve targeting. The deadline for entries is June 22.
Catherine McCrohan, head of support services and direct marketing at Breast Cancer Care – which was awarded the bursary in 2008 – said: “I know what a huge difference it made to us. We’re still using the work that the team did for us.”
REaD Group chief executive Mark Roy, who is also chair of the DMA’s Data Council, added: “British charities lead the world when it comes to effective fundraising, however, current economic and environmental pressures mean that charities and voluntary organisations need to be even more efficient.
“At The REaD Group, we want to invest in helping the UK’s leading charities to implement effective, sensitive and responsible direct marketing campaigns through our Charity Data Bursary.”
The charity sector wastes millions of pounds on poorly targeted mailings each year, mainly due to legacy databases and the use of old Electoral Roll data.
In a recent study by OnePost, almost 50% of consumers said they would start donating to a new charity if they received relevant and well targeted communication from them. Meanwhile poorly targeted communications were seen as a waste of money by almost 60% of consumers.
