Giant zoetrope hails EDF 2012 blitz

EDF Energy has unveiled the UK’s first giant handmade
zoetrope – a 2,000 year old moving-image device which was used by the first movie makers – to illustrate the host of prizes to be won through its 2012 London Olympics “Thank Yous” campaign.
The company, an official sponsor of the London Games, is offering a range of rewards – from trips to the London Eye and Eden Project to ‘once in a lifetime’ prizes such as tickets for the Olympics.
The 6ft-high zoetrope, designed by AIS London, will be displayed at the Olympics, with plans to display it in the V&A Museum of Childhood, once the Paralympics finishes.
AIS has also devised a campaign to promote the launch, including, eCRM and direct mail activity. It will be supported at a later date by a TV ad through Abbott Mead Vickers, featuring the brand’s new dancing brand character.
Sarah Stratford, managing partner of strategy of AIS, said: “Bringing this magical world to life, while also capturing the depth of prizes to be won, is an incredible benchmark we’ve set for ourselves in our creative solution.”
EDF marketing director Martin Stead added: “It’s great to have a creative idea that brings to life what EDF Energy really stands for, Feel Better Energy. With a range of rewards, from practical things like money off your electricity bill to once in a lifetime prizes such as tickets to the Olympics, it is our way of offering our thanks to our customers for being with us.”
