Google: ‘Data transparency crucial’

Consumer privacy is the top priority of Google’s new head in the UK, Dan Cobley, who maintains that online advertisers must help consumers understand what data they collect from them, and why it is important to them.
Speaking at the IAB Enagage conference in London, Cobley claimed Google was trying to play its part in assuring people about the security of their data with its recently-launched advertisements formulated in conjunction with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
Introducing his speech by saying “all marketing is going digital”, he went on to clarify that, by this, he meant any medium with which people could communicate and interact.
Cobley added that Google saw cloud computing and mobile Internet and communications as the key technological developments which would change people’s lives in coming years, and said that these had been why his company was devoting so much time and resources to developing image search and voice search capabilities.
And in conclusion, he said: “If you think digital has changed the world of marketing so far we ain’t seen nothing yet.”
