Rob Salmon, the man who founded and built data company Meta-morphix into a £6.5m turnover business, has been appointed commercial director at Teradata Applications.
Salmon, who left the business in 2011 after it was folded into The Read Group (now The Data Agency), started his career in 1991 at Comptex. He then had spells at Acxiom and Experian before setting up Meta-morphix in 1991. Since leaving he has worked at Blueprint Management Systems and itelligence UK.
Teradata, whose clients include Procter & Gamble, British Airways and McCain Foods, has been on a major expansion drive recently. Last year it purchased email and digital marketing firm eCircle, creating what it claims is the “largest marketing solutions provider in Europe”.
With its head office in Ohio, and operations around the world, the company’s main rivals to date have been IBM and Oracle, targeting data and IT professionals by offering warehousing and analytics solutions to major companies.
In 2010, it acquired marketing management software company Aprimo, but the eCircle deal signals an expansion into the integrated brand communications market.
Teradata claimed the acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, “will enable marketers worldwide to create integrated customer experiences across online and offline channels that leverage Big Data insights to grow existing customers, attract new customers, and increase revenues”.
