Sex site flayed for ‘phantom ads’

Sex site UKQuickies.com has run into trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority after running an ad to lure budding photographers with the promise of snapping “lovely women in the nude” and then charging them for the privilege.
The site, which describes itself as “Britain’s leading Speed Sex Encounters xxx service”, ran an ad headlined “Photographers – we need you”. It went on to say: “Do you enjoy photographing lovely women? In the nude? Do you want to get paid for doing it? Then contact us to see if you can become one of our part-time photographers. As part of our service, we offer all advertisers free access to a photographer who’ll take their photos for our use. You’ll get paid a small amount per hour (currently £7.80 an hour) plus all your travel expenses.
“For full details, send 42 1st class stamps, your name, address, some photo samples of your work. So get IN on the action. Get the chance to take photos of women aged 18+, build your portfolio. Help yourself, help us and help the lovely ladies!!!”
But the complainant, who had responded to the ad and not received any assignments, challenged whether the advertised vacancies were genuine. The ASA challenged whether the ad breached the code, because it asked potential employees to pay, by sending 42 first class stamps, before receiving information.
The ASA banned the ad as the CAP Code requires employment marketing communications to relate to genuine vacancies and that potential employees must not be asked to pay for information. As the ad required respondents to provide 42 first class stamps, worth almost £20, with their application and it ruled that the ad also breached the Code on this point.
The watchdog advised UKQuickies to seek guidance from CAP’s Copy Advice team before advertising vacancies in future.
