Sony mulls bounty to get hackers

Sony is considering offering a cash reward to catch the perpetrators of the hack attack which has seen the details of up to 100 million customers compromised.
The bounty offer is one of a number of options on the table being considered by the company and if pursued would be done so in co-operation with the FBI and other law enforcement authorities globally.
The news proves how desperately Sony needs some good PR to get its customers back onside, after its handling of the affair has drawn criticism from all sides – customers, regulators and industry commentators.
At the last count Sony had been the subject of a US Congress inquiry, an EU investigation, a class action legal case in the States, a probe by the Information Commissioner as well as a barrage of complaints from customers.
Last week, the company offered an apology to its customers for the outage, although stopped short of admitting it was to blame, instead citing the slow process of forensic analysis for the delay in telling customers.
