Bonjour, bonjour, chers amis – anciens comme nouveaux – et bienvenue à la première de mes réflexions sur la grande escapade estivale de la “Dream Team” des Maîtres de Jeu.
Yep, you guessed it, we’re all relaxing on the Carlton Terrace, just along the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes on the Côte d’Azur and what a joy it is not to be surrounded by Don Draper wannabes and tech bro bores.
The D’Ott is flowing nicely (yes, there is some left), and the real Dream Team are all here, too. Thankfully, none of the fellas read last week’s column so Old Man McKelvey, Ian “I’m skinnier than George Clooney these days” McCawley, the gorgeous, witty, brainy and übersexy proprietor of Spoon Creative Ltd, Mr Jonathan Spooner Esq and our web ops child are all back in Blighty, doing what they do best…MOANING.
Good job, too, as Roxy, Peggy and Meggy from Skeggy and yours truly have decided to embark on a grand tour of the Med to check out the top performers on Lovehoney’s latest LibidOlympics chart, which ranks countries by their sex drive. Look, it’s hard work but someone’s got to do it.
We might even hang around outside a few ad agencies to see how they shape up (well, the four grand we purloined from the fellas won’t last long so we will need to be able to claim back the cost against tax somehow.)
Not that we have had much time to study the local talent yet, as we have been far too busy sampling the local cheeses.
After all, who needs men (and marketing agencies for that matter) when you can gobble on Banon AOP, a small goat cheese from Haute-Provence wrapped by hand in brown chestnut leaves and tied with raffia. It has a creamy texture and a woody, earthy flavour.
Then there is Brousse du Rove, a fresh, delicate, and light goat’s milk cheese made near Marseille, with a soft, grainy texture and a mild, sweet taste often enjoyed with honey.
To round off, there is Poivre d’âne, a soft local cheese made from goat or cow milk that is flat and coated heavily in dried savoury, rosemary, or herbes de Provence.
Or, if you’re anything like me, you’ll gorge on ALL THREE…
I guess that’s why the favourite response to any question in France is “revenez demain” as nothing gets done in a hurry. Après le déjeuner, je fais toujours une petite sieste pour recharger mes batteries, as they say round these parts…
