Tesco promotes dairy farmers

Tesco is attempting to appease farming groups with the launch of a new dairy website promoting the work they do as well as the nutritional benefits of milk.
Hosted on the Tesco Real Food website, the site highlights the work of the supermarket giant’s milk supply group, Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group.
Tescomilk.com features content for Tesco customers as well as a password protected area for dairy farmers.
The magazine style site includes a video showing customers the journey from farm to fridge, as well as recipes and interactive games for children to highlight the health benefits of milk and to teach them about dairy farming.
There is also a regular blog by a farmer’s daughter, Jo North, who will write about living and working on her family’s dairy farm in West Sussex.
Tesco director of dairy Sean McCurly said: “This new website is a great source of information for customers on what makes Tesco milk better and why milk is an important part of a healthy diet.”
The supermarket chain recently raised the price it pays to its Sustainable Dairy Group by just over a penny a pint. Farmers groups have complained that they are often so squeezed on price they make a loss on every pint they sell.
The new rate of 28.18p per litre is 1.28p higher than it had been paying and will come into effect at the start of October.
