Former Craik Jones and TDA creative chief Simon Kershaw has taken up the interim creative directorship at VCCP me, as the agency hunts for a full-time replacement for Neil Francis.
Francis stepped down from his role last month after the agency – formerly Stephens Francis Whitson – changed its name to VCCP me and merged with data consultancy Tree.
Kershaw has been freelancing since leaving the executive creative director role at TDA in Cheltenham; a post he held for 14 months.
He started his copywriting career at Park Advertising in 1984, then had spells at O&M Direct, DDM, Evans Hunt Scott and BMP Young Clark Craig, where he formed a partnership with art director Phil Keevill.
The duo joined start-up Craik Jones Watson Mitchell Voelkel as a creative team, and stayed there for more than 11 years. They went on to set up Keevill Barton Kershaw – with former O&M man Steve Barton – in December 2003.
The agency traded for over three and a half years before they all went their separate ways. Keevill is now creative director at Kitcatt Nohr Digitas; Barton is global partner at OgilvyOne.
Keevill once said of Kershaw: “I can think of few writers who understand marketing and communications as well as he does…you’ll always get a refreshingly Northern opinion on just about any meaningful subject should you need one.”
