OK, Foxy Over A Barrel 2.0 is now bottled up but needs as few weeks to mature, and, I am lining up my lunch dates to reveal the Lotto Magic Numbers, but it seems I have plenty of competition in the “get-quick-rich” stakes.
Now, apparently, as entrepreneurs look beyond traditional cafés, retail and service models, a growing number of unconventional businesses around the world are thriving, not because they are novel, but because they solve modern problems.
From paid companionship to emotional release spaces, these “weird” business concepts reflect deeper shifts in consumer behaviour around loneliness, burnout, time scarcity and experience-led spending.
According to Mary Tamvakologos, director of operations at AnyBusiness, the rise of these models highlights how value is being redefined in the business-for-sale market.
She explained: “Buyers are no longer just asking what a business sells, they’re asking why it exists and whether it aligns with how people live now. Some of the fastest-growing concepts globally are built around emotional needs, convenience and experience, not physical products.”
And, boy, oh boy, she isn’t joking. Take for instance the rise of professional cuddling services, which are apparently gaining popularity across the UK, the US and Japan, where people actually shell out their hard-earned cash for platonic cuddling with “trained practitioners”.
Or how about crying cafés and emotional rooms, where people pay to visit a safe space to blub their eyes out with “curated support”. Then you can also visit Goat Yoga Studios, where you can join a herd of Capra hircus to add fun and stress relief. Finally, you can even sign up for professional queueing services, where you cough up to get some poor fool to stand in the queue for you until high-demand drops.
As Mary explained: “We’re seeing growing interest in experiential, lifestyle-driven and service-based businesses – particularly those that tap into wellness, companionship, pet care and convenience. What looks unconventional today often becomes tomorrow’s mainstream category.”
And, if after all that, you feel like a stiff drink, don’t forget Busty Over a Barrell 2.0 will be available very soon!
Foxy has ditched X but is still on Instagram, just don’t get too excited as she’s never there
