During her time at the CMA, Hutchison was instrumental in rebranding the group from the Association of Publishing Agencies, a move designed to reposition it away from simply a magazine-based organisation.
She also oversaw a number of other initiatives, including the formation of the International Content Marketing Forum; new business consultancy ASK; and the CMA conference, The International Content Summit.
CMA chief executive Patrick Fuller said Hutchison had been an inspiration for the industry and can be credited with the positioning and growth of the content marketing sector. “She has been instrumental in moving the industry from a pure print heritage to the multichannel content provider that it is today,” he added.
Group FMG, which has offices in New York and the UK, provides a range of agency services and outsources many of these to India. UK managing director Mark Inskip said: “Julia guided the CMA to become a trade association that has moved with the times – one that recognises that editorial content is now as much about video, mobile and online as it is about print. Her wealth of experience is going to be a real asset and we very much look forward to welcoming her on board.”
Meanwhile Hutchison added: “Content marketing is a discipline that I feel extremely passionate about. This is why I’ve chosen a new role that enables me to stay in the industry. I am looking forward to continuing to drive the industry forward through a hands-on, client facing position with truly platform-agnostic content marketing solutions.”
