Next triggers twitterati backlash

250220131221Retail giant Next is facing the wrath of the twitterati after a single customer complaint about a late delivery triggered a raft of tweets in support of the customer and has even led to accusations about its pricing.
The row kicked off after the customer, @Ox_Bex, tweeted to his own followers yesterday (Sunday): “F***ing Next wankers! It’s a pissing Sunday you bastards & I’ve wasted four fecking hours for a delivery you forgot to tell me isn’t coming.”
But instead of dealing with the issue by sending the customer a private message, the Next help desk – @NextHelp – picked up the tweet and ordered ‘Bex’ to delete it via the open platform for all to see.  This was despite the fact that it did not mention the retailer’s official account or incorporate a hashtag.
@nextofficial responded: “@Ox_Bex Hi BC, we kindly ask you to remove your original tweet as the language used may offend other readers.Instead, please DM at @NextHelp.”
This tweet has unleashed an ongoing barrage of replies in support of ‘Bex’, including one which reads: “Who is the megalomaniac running your Twitter account,” and “@nextofficial try to censor tweets about their bad service”. Meanwhile another tweeter wrote:” I’d like to know why your goods are so expensive yet your suppliers & Next pay staff so badly?”
