‘Sloppy’ Virgin in Xmas email gaffe

Virgin Media stands accused of sloppy practice, after sending out a Christmas email campaign to thousands of its mobile users with a spelling mistake in the headline.
The email, promoting its range of mobile phones, states: “Giving someone a shinny new phone this Christmas? Hoping you might get given one yourself?”
DecisionMarketing has been contacted by a number of readers who have received the campaign, with one commenting: “You’d think they’d at least proof-read their own marketing emails,” before quipping, “Perhaps it’s a speshkul phone for speshkul people who can’t actually spell.”
At the last count, Virgin had just over 1 million subscribers, although it is not known how many have been targeted by the campaign. No-one was available for comment as DecisionMarketing went to press.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Virgin may well partner with 3 UK or even buy it in order to increase its presence in the mobile carrier and mobile broadband market.
Technology and telecoms analyst firm, Ovum, reckons that 3 UK, which is owned by Hutchinson Whampoa, may provide Virgin Media with the necessary network to extend its services.
