Foxy reveals the only true way to fight festive burnout

“Have a holly jolly Christmas, It’s the best time of the year, Now I don’t know if there’ll be snow, But have a cup of cheer.” Yep, the baubles are dangling, the tinsel is twinkling and the Foxy over a Barrel craft ale is flowing; c’mon kids, THERE’S ONLY NINETEEN SLEEPS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

Yep, I’ve now changed my profile picture and I’m coming over all seasonal again (lucky old seasonal as they say), but apparently not everyone is full of festive cheer or beer.

You see, according to new research from Forbes, 41% of employees worldwide are currently stressed out at work, while an article in Glamour highlights how “festive burnout” is taking its toll on the British workforce.

Thankfully, according to employability experts, there are ways for everyone to manage the seasonal stress – and it is not all about going down the boozer and getting wankered every lunchtime and evening.

In fact, our old friend Guy Thornton, the founder of Practice Aptitude Tests, has exclusively shared his insight into why so many workers find Christmas stressful, as well as tips on how to lighten the load.

This man is obviously on top of his game as he explains: “Festive burnout refers to feeling run down, exhausted, or overwhelmed at work during the Christmas season. (No shit Sherlock!)

“The reason so many people experience it is that consumer activity booms during this time of year, leading to a sharp increase in employee workloads.

“But it’s not just customer-facing workers who struggle, either. Those in office-based roles may find themselves scrambling to meet annual goals and targets before year-end. (Tell me about it!)

“This massive increase in workload frequently dampens workers’ moods, overshadowing the joy that Christmas is intended to bring.” (Well, I wouldn’t go that far!)

So, “Guru Guy” what’s the solution, other than our own method of going down the boozer and getting wankered every lunchtime and evening?

Well, get a load of these, er, magic tips:  “Ensure work stops when the workday ends. Mute emails, Slack, or Teams notifications, and avoid engaging in any work-related activities outside of work hours.

“Be honest with your manager if you feel overwhelmed and focus on prioritising tasks. Activities like meditation, yoga, winter walks, or even festive jigsaw puzzles can help you detach from work stress and return feeling refreshed…”

To be honest, I prefer our method… Pint anyone?
