Anyway, while Campaign magazine asked a load of bores – sorry I mean senior adlanders – what was taking their minds “of” (sloppy) their pitches and problems this summer, I could have saved them all the trouble.
You see, now we all have AI, it seems that no sooner have you thought of an idea than up pops the answer. And, this week, the answer to all your literary dreams could well be Where’s My Free Lunch? by some bloke called Eddie Ross.
Well, at least that is what I thought. I mean, who doesn’t like a free lunch? My personal favourite is a free lunch with plenty of booze being poured down my throat, followed by a large portion of Belgian chips with lashings of mayo on the way home.
Not that I am an old soak, you understand, but this job does require a certain amount of stamina and an exceptional memory, otherwise there is little point going out and getting bladdered if a) you can’t find your way home b) you forget all the juicy titbits you gather when the tongues are loose and, crucially, c) you have to pay for it.
So, as you can imagine, I was relishing getting stuck into my new tome when it hit me. This is no new guide to getting pissed as a fart for nothing, this is one of those godforsaken self-help publications.
And I quote: “Where’s My Free Lunch? distils a lifetime of coaching, consulting, and senior leadership roles into one sharp, accessible volume. Each chapter delivers tools and perspectives that speak to both seasoned executives and emerging leaders. The concept of ‘me-pathy’ – understanding one’s own impact – threads through the book as a call to take radical responsibility. Whether leading a business or their own life, this book invites readers to stop waiting for answers and start showing up.”
What a load of old shite.
If I were you, I’d check out Pete Brown’s excellent Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer (Fully Updated Second Edition). Now that’s what I call a decent read.
Have a great weekend…
Foxy has ditched X but is still on Instagram, just don’t get too excited as I’m never there
