“O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stain’d With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit Beneath my shady roof; there thou may’st rest, And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe, And all the daughters of the year shall dance! Sing now the lusty song of fruits and flowers.”
Yep, and with the fine words of William Blake we usher in a new season… and a new autumn wardrobe, too. Still no sign of the cash to create my digital twin but given the fact that the Bank of England spunked £65bn in gilts last week to save us all from being on the brink of a financial crisis, my money worries are a minor concern.
Still, onwards and upwards as they say, and, with 81 sleeps until Christmas Day, the cost of living crisis could actually have an upside. As I can’t afford to eat, the weight should be falling off me faster than you can say “Get out of the way fatty” and I will soon be in my festive outfits.
However, I do have a BIRTHDAY WEEK to celebrate before that and one final blow out, Lancashire style, in which I will also be raising a pint or two to the fact that October is also NATIONAL PIZZA MONTH.
Of course, up in Bolton le Moors, a pizza is not a pizza unless it is whacked into a large white muffin, with lashings of ketchup. But the ultimate stuffed crust is just the hors-d’œuvre to the full-on pasty barm and chips.
As Blake would have it: “‘The spirits of the air live in the smells Of fruit; and Joy, with pinions light, roves round The gardens, or sits singing in the trees. Thus sang the jolly Autumn as he sat, Then rose, girded himself, and o’er the bleak Hills fled from our sight; but left his golden load.”
After that lot, I will definitely be girding myself and autumn will no doubt be leaving a load; alas, I doubt if it will be a golden one though…
