Communisis secures HMRC communications work

taxCommunisis has landed a major contract from HM Revenue & Customs to handle all the organisation’s outbound customer communications, including sending out over 185 million letters each year and the deployment of “document composition” technology.
The marketing firm, whose clients include EE, BT, LV=, and Legal & General, as well as major utility companies, has signed a five-year contract with HMRC, kicking off with an initial three years followed by the option of a further two-year extension.
Communisis is scheduled to begin work in mid-2017. Chief executive Andy Blundell said: “[We] offered an optimum technology solution, displaying the best understanding of the business requirements. We are excited to be starting this new relationship, in support of HMRC’s ‘digital by default’ agenda.”
However, the irony of the appointment will not be lost on some, in March this year a former PA to Blundell was jailed for three and a half years after being found guilty of false representation and false accounting to hide a massive £264,000 spending spree.
Earlier this year, the firm revealed a new simplified structure, which it said would ultimately lead to a 10% reduction in staff across the business. Communisis employed 2,351 people at its year-end.
