A leading London escort agency has been slapped down by the ad watchdog after it advertised an urgent need for high class escorts – both men and women – for its wealthy clients, in return for big wads of cash to “meet new people, have fun and work hours to suit you”.
The ad for Jewels of London, which appeared in the adult section of the Friday Ad website, stated: “We need ladies and men urgently to accompany wealthy clients to events! Very high earning potential and the opportunity to meet new people, have fun and work hours to suit you! Limited vacancies…”
However, one reader was not too chuffed when he discovered that he faced an enrolment fee of between £200 and £500 to register for a vacancy, and rifled off a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority. The complainant also questioned whether the escorts were needed “urgently” or that there were, in fact, “limited vacancies”.
In its defence, Jewels of London claimed that the ad had been changed to drive applicants to its website, and where all the terms and conditions were laid bare – including the fact that a fee was applicable.
When it came to the “limited vacancies” claim, Jewels of London came over coy, maintaining it was unable to prove bookings because clients and escorts would not want them to divulge private information, given they offered a highly secretive service.
However, the ASA was unimpressed, and banned the ad from appearing in its current form. It also warned Jewels of London not to imply it had current work opportunities unless it could provide evidence to show it.
