Flood victims get free mail service

flood victims get free mail serviceRoyal Mail has introduced a free redirection service for deliveries in flood-stricken areas, as the postal service battles against the elements to get letters and parcels delivered.
The company, which says it is “doing all we can to support victims of the flooding” is also holding mail for people, whose homes are inaccessible, for collection from sorting offices.
Although there have been no reports of direct mail campaigns being hit, thousands of homes across the UK are inaccessible due to localised flooding, and timely mailshots – such as retail door-drops – are likely to have been affected.
Royal Mail is urging business customers to check its online service updates for the latest developments and has admitted many areas are experiencing delays in post getting through.
With many rail lines and motorways shut, or under pressure, mail posted in parts of London for delivery in North Wales, Northern England and Scotland are likely to suffer.
Meanwhile, the late departure of vehicles from its Princess Royal Distribution Centre in London is also affecting deliveries to parts of Kent, Sussex and Surrey.
