RBS appoints Merrill Lynch chief

RBS has recruited of Ian Ewart, former international marketing chief at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, as director of marketing for its wealth division.
In this role, Ewart will be responsible for the marketing and communications strategy across all of the RBS wealth division brands including Coutts & Co, RBS Coutts, RBS International and Adam & Company.
Commenting on the appointment Rory Tapner, chief executive of RBS wealth division, said: “The development of our brands and the enhancement of all aspects of the client experience are fundamental to the continued success of our businesses. We are delighted to be adding someone of Ian’s exceptional experience, reputation and recognised expertise to the senior team.”
Ewart has most recently held the position of head of international marketing at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and joins RBS as a leading industry expert in private banking marketing management. He has also held a number of senior marketing positions, notably at Barclays Wealth and HSBC.
He is bi-lingual in French and English and has 25 years’ experience in the financial services marketing sector. His appointment signals RBS’ continued intention to grow its wealth management franchise across each of its brands.
Ewart assumes responsibility for leading the marketing and communications function of the wealth division, spearheading efforts to enhance all aspects of the client experience. He will report to Rory Tapner, chief executive of RBS wealth division, and be a member of the wealth division executive committee.
