
The service is currently available at 300 stores, but Sainsbury’s is looking to increase this to 400 by June and 800 by Christmas. The retailer has doubled the number of stores offering the service since March, and this latest expansion will include the Sainsbury’s convenience stores as well as its supermarkets.
Click & Collect enables customers to place a non-food online order by 2pm for next day delivery.
Sainsbury’s director of convenience Helen Buck said: “General merchandise is a key area of focus for Sainsbury’s and we are enjoying growth rates of 20% in some areas. Sainsbury’s growth is well documented and services such as Click & Collect will play an increasingly crucial role in this.
“Over a third of our non-food online sales come through Click & Collect and this exciting expansion will make it even easier to take advantage of the service. The fact that we have nearly doubled the number of stores offering Click & Collect since March shows how keen we are to bring our non-food online offer to as many customers as possible.”
Sainsbury’s director of direct channels Tanya Lawler added: “Customers tell us they really value the ease of using Click & Collect. It means they get all of the benefits of shopping online – the ease of use, competitive prices and a wide range of products – but can pick up their items in a location convenient to them the next day.”
Sainsbury’s plans to boost sales of non-food items from the current 25% of total sales to 45% by 2020.
