HeyHuman chief executive Simon Marshall has left the agency just over a year after overseeing the rebrand from Billington Cartmell, the move designed to expand the business away from its sales promotion roots.
Marshall actually joined the agency 18 months ago when he moved back to the UK from heading up the Marketing Store’s operations in the US and Canada.
He succeeded John Gellett, who joined the group in 2013 but switched to a wider role within the group, which also includes Closer and Brave.
The HeyHuman rebrand followed what non-executive chairman Rupert Howell described as “12 months of modernising and digitising the agency” to base it around the simple belief that “successful brands are human brands”.
Howell and Matthew Hooper were appointed as non-execs following the company’s sale to the private equity firm Hutton Collins Partners.
Marshall, a former British Army captain, plied his trade at many of the top DM agencies including Carlson, GGT Direct and OgilvyOne before being appointed chief executive of Publicis Dialog in 2000, where he worked closely with creative director Mike Cavers.
The duo ended up working together again when they joined the Marketing Store in 2007. Cavers left soon after Marshall was promoted to executive vice-president and managing director of Marketing Store North America in March 2011.
Marshall was responsible for operations in both the US and Canada, representing a diverse group of clients including McDonald’s, Nissan, Shell, Coca-Cola North America and General Mills among others.
At the time of his appointment to Billingtons, Howell said: “Simon’s role is to build on this success and take the Group through phase two.” Marshall was unavailable for comment when contacted by DecisionMarketing.
