Tesco poaches Matt Atkinson

Retail giant Tesco has raided its agency to appoint EHS 4D group chief executive Matt Atkinson as group marketing and digital officer.
Atkinson, known throughout the industry as the “ultimate suit”, will report to Tesco deputy chief executive and global chief marketing officer Tim Mason, who runs the Fresh & Easy chain in the US.
He joined EHS 4D, then known as EHS Brann, in January 2004, having been head of integration at Saatchi & Saatchi. Prior to Saatchi, Atkinson was chief executive of Interfocus and before that, he was managing director of Tequila. He was promoted to global chief of EHS in June 2008.
As EHS is Tesco’s lead direct marketing agency, Atkinson has been involved with the retailer for over seven years. His new role will be to bring new digital and brand management skills to further boost Tesco’s international footprint.
Mason said: “I’ve worked with Matt for many years, and we are delighted to be able to strengthen our team with his addition. He brings a proven track record in digital, a deep knowledge of brands, as well as a sound understanding and our business and brand. This is a great moment for us as we look to fully integrate digital into all that we do, deepening and strengthening our management of the Tesco brand.”
Atkinson will leave later this year and will be replaced by group marketing director Tash Whitmey.
