Wunderman UK has promoted chief technology officer Stephan Pretorius to the role of group chief executive, putting him in charge of seven agencies and nearly 1,000 staff.
As well as Wunderman London, Pretorius will also manage Acceleration, Burrows, Cognifide, Fusepump, Salmon, and Possible.
South African Pretorius joined the agency in 2016, when the WPP business bought Acceleration – the martech consultancy he launched in 1999 – and will continue in his CTO role.
His appointment is designed to give clients “seamless” access to a range of services which span digital strategy, experience design, ecommerce, content, marketing technology and digital transformation consulting.
Last month, the UK agency launched a new platform, dubbed Elements of Experience, which it claims will help brands build stronger consumer relationships by harnessing data and insights to explore and benchmark the world’s best customer experiences across every sector.
Wunderman EMEA chief executive and UK chairman Mel Edwards said: “In the face of rapid change in digital marketing, clients are looking for simpler solutions spanning the full range of digital marketing.
“Stephan’s appointment is designed to support further collaboration and integration across our entire network of growing businesses in the UK.”
Wunderman global chief executive Mark Read added: “Stephan’s technology and consultancy background is absolutely relevant for our clients’ needs. It’s a very exciting time for Wunderman and we are thrilled that Stephan will lead our businesses in the UK.”
