Users have to get their Twitter followers to reply using the hashtag and then one of them will be sent a link to an animation.
The animation shows the cracker being pulled, and features a traditional joke; it also reveals which prize they have won.
The strapline reads: “It’s the little things that make Christmas, like pulling a cracker. Which is why we’ve got 50,000 of them all prezzie-packed and ready for you to pull with your followers.”
The game, created by new agency Wieden + Kennedy, will be promoted across Twitter and Tesco’s Facebook page.
Tom Daniell, Tesco social and digital director, commented on the campaign: “We’re looking forward to lots of people joining in the festivities this weekend by pulling a virtual cracker.
“We know it’s the little things that make Christmas, like groaning over a cheesy cracker joke with friends and family. It’s great that social media means we can help people all over the country share more of those moments.”
