Another week, another nail in the coffin for the misogynists; face it guys, your days are numbered. Now I’m no great lover of women’s lib – you want to try walking around with 38DDs without a bra – but you lot are looking more endangered than the Ailuropoda melanoleuca and the Balaenoptera musculus (that’s the giant panda and blue whale for those not in the know).
Of course, not everyone is happy about us girls gaining membership of The Solus Club, and as soon as I find out who the 11 members are who voted against it they’ll be getting more than a tongue-lashing I can tell you, but you just can’t keep us away.
Not that it won’t be without its issues. I mean, obviously it’s going to need a huge makeover for a start. There’s nothing like a bit of chintz to bring a place up to scratch. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen could have a field day – and there can’t be many places that have survived without a ladies’ loo for 84 years.
It is said that the issue of allowing female members has long been an embarrassment to Solus Club leaders. The lovely Hamish Pringle even resigned over it. Mind you, I bet his missus had a hand in that – a hand slapped round his face! However, I can’t help but wonder if it is simply a cynical move to boost flagging – or should I say flaccid – membership numbers. After all, with us girls virtually running the agency world these days, where else are they going to go to get people to sign up?
Still, The Solus Club is not the only place which shows the march of “girl power”. Last night the England women’s football team won 8-0. Yeh, you read it right 8-0. When the men play, the only things that have been worth watching in recent years have been Frank Lampard’s thighs and David Beckham’s bum; when us girls are on the pitch we get the job done. Simples.
But don’t get me wrong, you men do have your uses. Putting up shelves, decorating, washing up, mowing the lawn…even in the bedroom sometimes. But the Muffia’s coming guys, get used to it…
