So here we are again, another week of trawling through the gutter to give you the latest industry gossip. Actually, this can be surprisingly hard work – so many places to drink, so many men to eye up…er I mean network with.
Anyway, this week I was walking along the Strand in London when I spotted the rather dashing Marauding Mike, a former D&B, Draft London and LBM chief, strolling very purposefully towards a pub.
Now I haven’t seen Mike since I bumped into him in San Francisco a few years back, where he was walking hand-in-hand with the equally dashing Nelly McCarthy. At the time both men sported rather fetching moustaches. Ah, they made a lovely couple in San Fran let me tell you. Back then Mike was in a pretty chipper mood having just emerged from an auction house where he had been persuaded to part with thousands of pounds for what was claimed to be ‘Michael Jackson’s piano’, ‘Rod Stewart’s guitar’ and ‘King Louis XIV’s underpants’. Suffice to say, the ‘treasures’ never quite made it into his house due to the fact that his missus went ballistic. Oh happy days.
So, I followed Mike into the pub and lo and behold ended up at the Marketing Hybrids’ networking evening. Free drinks all night and lots of very rich men for me to ‘network’ with. Mike seemed particularly pleased to see me, although insisted on showing me a video of his new lady friend. Well I say ‘lady’ but that video put a Busty Idol Bonus to shame. Still, to borrow a line from Mrs Merton “exactly what she saw in the multimillionaire Mike is anyone’s guess”.
He was in good form though, however, being the only woman in the room did present its challenges. It took me ages to get round to everyone, but you’ll be pleased to know I left them all with a smile on their faces. Hard work, but worth it in the end.
Talking of which, don’t forget, the DMA has extended the deadline for its awards till today (September 16), so get your finger out… After all you wouldn’t want to miss the chance to meet me on the Awards night would you???
