‘Staycation’ Busty green with envy

BustyI must admit, I’m beginning to regret ever writing last week’s column on how easy it is to get coverage in Campaign magazine by simply hiring anyone who used to work there…
What started out as a Bernstein and Woodward style expose has come to back to bite me on my not-inconsiderable arse.
Not from anyone working there, you understand; they would be hard-pushed to argue against it – sadly it’s from all you lot out there demanding to know who would be the best person to hire. Damn you.
My esteemed editor wasn’t too chuffed either. He wants me to get visitors to this august site and not that “wank mag” as he calls it. Ah well, at least I haven’t stooped so low as to “like” it on Facebook, like some I could mention (the founding deputy editor of Data Strategy who now plies his trade in the limelight of public relations, being one of them).
Anyway, enough of that, as this week I’ve been busy keeping tabs on all you readers jetting off to foreign climes while I’m stuck in Blighty trying to get negotiations with those naughty boys from Paddy Power back on track – and old McKelvey is not letting me go on holiday until the deal is struck.
However, it seems my refusal to vagazzle for their cunning stunt has put the kibosh on the whole deal – so no summer break for me.
Not quite so for the indefatigable Omaid ‘Aciiiiieeed’ Hiwaizi, who has just decamped to Ibiza. Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Johnny Walker and Nicky Holloway had better watch out; I’m not too sure he’ll win the “wet T-shirt” competition but he’ll definitely being having it large.
Elsewhere, it’s been interesting to see the differing fortunes of the founders of Stephens Francis Whitson – now VCCP me of course – in the holiday stakes.
Ben “huntin’, shootin’, fishing’ Stephens is currently off on a European tour, although if his Facebook posts are anything to go by he seems more interested in the local grapes rather than the scenic views. So far he’s taken in France (a trip to the Moet & Chandon HQ naturally), Switzerland (Mont Blanc or should that be Servignon Blanc?), Italy (Chianti Classico, no doubt), and Croatia (Kabola Amfora Malvazija Istarska, almost definitely).
Meanwhile Chris “look under my kilt” Whitson has been living it up in a massive villa near Kouklia in Cyprus. But what of their other former business partner, Neil Francis, I hear you ask? Why he’s been to Brixton Prison, of course.
Those who say there’s no money to be made in direct marketing any more are obviously wrong; there is money; just not for everyone…
