Acorn Adventure relaunches brand with Modern Citizens

acorn adventureOutdoor education specialist Acorn Adventure has launched a new identity and strategic brand vision as it becomes a digital gateway to the outdoors for schools, families and young people across the UK.

Devised by agency Modern Citizens, the platform positions Acorn Adventure as a digital-first service, offering schools across the UK seamless access to a wide range of independent outdoor centres.

This shift from being a traditional provider of outdoor experiences to a digital gateway is designed to empower schools to easily discover, book and organise tailored adventure trips in real-time, streamlining the process for teachers and broadening the options available.

The organisation was set up in 1982 by Andrew Gardiner, a teacher in Birmingham who had previously helped to arrange school camping trips to North Wales and had seen the profound benefits that the pupils – and the staff – gained.

Partnering with the independent outdoor centres, it offers adventures of all shapes and sizes, suitable for all ages, all needs and at all scales, in a host of settings and environments.

To complement the new digital focus, Modern Citizens has designed a fresh visual identity for Acorn Adventure which pays homage to the company’s legacy of trust and expertise in the outdoor education sector, but firmly places it as a digital first brand, opening up access and offering simplicity to schools and teachers as they take young people out into the great outdoors.

School Travel Company director  Nick Dunnett said: “The launch of the new brand and gateway is an exciting chapter for Acorn Adventure. This rebrand opens new opportunities and offers simplicity to schools and teachers as they plan enriching outdoor experiences for young people. We are thrilled to bring innovation to the residential activity industry by offering real-time availability through the Acorn Adventure Gateway.”

Modern Citizens head of consulting Josh Dickins added: “Acorn Adventure helps provide something that young people need more than ever: access to adventure and exciting new experiences. Sadly, those options can feel limited and too many schools and children are missing out.

“By partnering with Acorn at a time of strategic change, we were able to work with the fantastic reputation the company had built up over 40 years, but point it at a new, much bigger goal: opening up access to the outdoors, increasing opportunities for schools and ultimately making teachers lives easier when it comes to booking school trips.

“From positioning to visual identity, we helped build a brand that is at home in the digital world, but which has brilliant real life adventures firmly at its heart.”
