Change4Life has developed a new game with its partner LazyTown to get young children healthy and active, and is launching a new campaign devised by 23red to support the partnership.
Released this week, the interactive ‘Blast Off!’ board game is accompanied by an explanatory booklet of the activities and healthy eating advice.
Around 100,000 games will be distributed nationally to 3,638 Sure Start Centres, along with packs available for parents. Additional games will be available from the Department of Health ‘orderline’.
The fundamental aim of the campaign is to promote the recommended 180 active minutes a day for 2-5 year olds.
‘Blast Off!’ participants are immersed in a Change4Life and LazyTown world, where players compete in a range of Change4Life and LazyTown character Sportacus movements, such as ‘Sportacus Ski Practice,’ and ‘Happy Hopper,’ with each activity sending the player towards Sportacus’s AirShip.
As they progress along the board, they need to avoid the LazyTown character, Robbie Rotten, who will send players back. The activities are designed to be fun and engaging for children and once all players reach the AirShip there is a group task to complete.
23red founder and managing partner Jane Asscher commented: “LazyTown is a rare breed of children’s television programme in that healthy diet and physical activity sit at the heart of the characters day-to-day activities.
“We’re thrilled to be working on behalf of the Department of Health & Change4Life in partnership with LazyTown to deliver a programme to target young children and engage them in developing healthy behaviours.”
