Daily Mail hires Jobsworth chief to run data strategy

ian-thomasIan Thomas, the man who ran one of the direct marketing industry’s leading recruitment consultancies for nearly 14 years, has joined the Daily Mail to oversee the development and leadership of the brand’s analytics team.
Despite being a huge critic of all things DM, behind the scenes the Mail operates a huge direct marketing department of its own. As data insight manager, Thomas has been tasked with leading the data team to deliver data mining, profiling, segmentation, predictive analysis and campaign reporting.
In addition, he will work closely with all business areas within the Mail Newspapers group to drive new, relevant and effective ways to improve customer interaction, participation levels and increased revenue based on insight gained from analytics
Sitting within the Marketing Operational Team, Thomas will also champion the use of analytics as a revenue generator within the wider business.
He joins from Velocity Programs, a CRM consultancy specialising in the implementation of CRM and customer engagement solutions, where he was a director and lead consultant. But it is his role as founder of Jobsworth Recruitment that he is perhaps best known.
Having spent three years at Claritas, Thomas launched Jobsworth in January 2003 and since then the firm has filled thousands of direct marketing vacancies. Thomas left the business in April this year.
