Industry body the DMA has joined the likes of Chevrolet, Etihad, Yokohama, Emirates Air, and Standard Charter in signing a major shirt sponsorship deal with an English football club.
But before members jam the switchboard at DMA House and go apoplectic at the prospect of their fees going to fund fast cars, lavish lifestyles, and homes in leafy Surrey, Decision Marketing is pleased to report this is no multi-million pound deal.
In fact, the DMA has actually been sponsoring the Under 10 Tigers and the Under 10 Lions at Westward Boys Club in East London, whose players all sport the DMA logo on the shirts.
And that distinctive logo seems to have brought a touch of magic to the mighty Westwoods, as both teams were promoted from their respective divisions; the boys won 6-0 on three occasions.
Whether DMA chiefs had much input in the tactical success of the Tigers and Lions is not known, although it is said that head of external affairs Mike Lordan was a midfield enforcer back in the day, who was once considered for trials at his local Bermondsey club, Millwall FC.
The silky skills of executive director Chris Combemale – who holds joint French/American citizenship – are less certain.
