Ticket agency Skiddle is aiming to take the 2015 festival season by storm with the launch of a free 3D welly printing service, saving music lovers from the torrential downpours.
This summer the company will be riding its party bus to festivals around the country, including Isle of White Festival, Leeds & Reading Festival and Creamfields, to provide some much-needed relief from downpours in the form of 10,000 pairs of 3D printed wellies.
Skiddle’s ‘give it some welly’ service – unveiled today (April 1) – will offer festival-goers custom designed wellies which will be created using 3D printers in less than 30 minutes.
Skiddle predicts its five 3D printers will allow it to produce up to 10,000 pairs of free wellies throughout this year’s festival season.
Ben Sebborn, owner and technical director at Skiddle, said: “There’s nothing like torrential rain to damper a festival goer’s spirits. I’ve been to hundreds of festivals in my time and it’s unbelievable how many people you see tramping through the mud in converse or sandals.
“We’re hoping our creation will bring a bit of a laugh to the UK’s festivals and save thousands of people from an uncomfortable experience. We’ll be carting our party bus across the country to roll out the ‘give it some welly’ service across some of the country’s biggest festivals.”
Example designs can be seen at http://www.skiddle.com/festivals/3d-printed-festival-wellies.html and recipients of wellies will be encouraged to upload pictures of them wearing their creations to the site and social media channels using the hashtag #skiddlewellies.
