Hodder makes social media debut

Publisher Hodder & Stoughton is moving into social media with the launch of a Facebook app to help drive reader awareness for the international best-selling author Jasper Fforde.
The ‘Help find Thursday Next’ app, at facebook.com/jasperffordebooks, has been created by specialist eCRM agency Underwired and is its first foray into social media since appointing the agency in the summer.
It is based on the author’s bestseller ‘One of our Thursdays is Missing’ and has been developed as part of a planned social media strategy for Hodder & Stoughton, which also counts Stephen King and John Grisham among its stable.
Hodder & Stoughton marketing executive Naomi Berwin said: “We wanted an app that would support the launch of the Facebook page and really engage with Jasper’s fans. ‘Help find Thursday Next’ does this perfectly in keeping with the tone of the books and acts as a data capture tool without interfering with the experience of playing the game.
“I was really impressed with the way the team at Underwired managed the development, grasping the concept immediately and bringing it to life.”
‘One of our Thursdays is Missing’ is the sixth book in Fforde’s ‘Thursday Next’ series, with a new hardback ‘Dark Reading Matter’ being released this July. He has also written the ‘Nursery Crimes’ series and ‘Shades of Grey’, and is now extending his brand of fantasy to younger readers in ‘The Last Dragonslayer’ trilogy.
Underwired first developed its social CRM capability in 2010 with pilot work for ASICS. Its other clients include Sony, Bupa, Harveys Furniture and Tesco Kitchens.
