Kwik-Fit starts direct agency hunt

Car servicing and repair company Kwik-Fit is understood to be talking to agencies about its direct marketing account, as part of plans to support a major ad campaign.
The company has worked with a number of direct agencies on a project basis but is believed to be seeking a dedicated shop to work alongside Adam & Eve/DDB, which has held the advertising business for nearly a decade.
Kwik-Fit, which has over 600 centres in the UK, started out as a tyre, brake, and exhaust specialist but has expanded into new areas such as MOT testing and car servicing over recent years.
Activity is likely to include direct and email campaigns to previous clients as the company has an extensive customer database, which it already uses for MOT and servicing reminders.
Its most famous marketing campaign remains the 1984 ‘You Can’t Get Better Than a Kwik-Fit Fitter’ which starred a number of up and coming British actors who had appeared in the movie Scum. Five different commercials were made in this series, devised by Rapier, with the last being shown on TV in 1989.
The Kwik-Fit fitter returned to TV in 2008 with the ‘You’ll Be Amazed at What We Do’ campaign.
And in March, it launched a £5m campaign, “Mates Rates”, which promoted on Kwik-Fit’s offers on new tyres and MOTs. A series of six TV commercials, backed by radio, is to run this year.
