Nigella exposes Saatchi drug use

Saatchi 1Nigella Lawson has blown the gaffe on Class A drug abuse in adland, alleging that when Charles Saatchi was at Saatchi & Saatchi, “they brought in a big sack of cocaine every Friday”, which others took.
Tales of drug use in agencies have been widespread for years – former PHD co-founder Jonathan Durden famously confessed to using “a couple of grams of cocaine several times a week” and then visiting prostitutes – but this is thought to be the first time Saatchi & Saatchi has been exposed.
Lawson, who said that Charles Saatchi did not approve of drugs, made the claim in her explosive evidence in the fraud trial of two former PAs – Francesca Grillo and her sister Elisabetta – at Isleworth Crown Court in West London.
She said that Saatchi was trying to “destroy” her by making public her drug use after his “menaces” failed to force her to return to him.
Lawson ridiculed the suggestion that she had used cocaine “daily” for 10 years, joking: “People who do that are a lot thinner than I am.”
Set up in 1970, by 1986 Saatchi & Saatchi had grown to be the largest ad agency in the world, with over 600 offices. However, Charles and Maurice were forced out in 1995, and together founded M&C Saatchi agency. Since then Charles has taken more of a back seat in the business to concentrate on his art collection through the Saatchi Gallery.
