Postal fears boost click & collect

postal fears boost click & collectThe click and collect market came into its own over the Christmas period, according to a new study which shows two-fifths of shoppers shunned home deliveries to pick up parcels in person.
And, it is easy to see why after nearly one in three (31%) shoppers experienced problems with their orders. Of those, 49% suffered from missed deliveries, while 45% experienced late deliveries or never received their goods.
Those who used click and collect cited avoiding delivery charges (61%) and the greater convenience offered (53%) as their biggest motivations, with just over a third (34%) stating they would use the same system more next Christmas too.
To emphasise the point, a quarter of online Christmas shoppers stated they chose to shop specifically with a retailer that offered click and collect over one that solely offered home delivery, according to the study conducted by YouGov for  retail and supply chain software company JDA.
Not that click and collect did not have its own issues – 30% of shoppers experienced long waiting times due to a lack of in-store staff, while 29% cited the lack of an area in-store for click and collect purchases.
Jason Shorrock, retail strategy director at JDA, said: “Christmas 2014 was undoubtedly the year that online shoppers saw click and collect as a viable alternative to home delivery. Shoppers want greater flexibility as to how and when they receive their online goods. But at the same time it is clear that home delivery reliability around the Christmas period remains something of a lottery.”
