Sainsbury’s boosts online team

Sainsbury’s is strengthening its online management team by recruiting a former Ocado chief as director of online and promoting an insider to the new role of director of digital.
Former Ocado head of retail Jon Rudoe will join Sainsbury’s next month as director of online and will report to Mike Coupe, Sainsbury’s group commercial director. At Ocado, Rudoe’s responsibilities included marketing, website and products. At Sainsbury’s he will manage the day to day running of Sainsbury’s online grocery and non-food business.
Tanya Lawler, who is director of channels, will take up the new role of Sainsbury’s director of digital and will report to Luke Jensen, Sainsbury’s group development director. Lawler will be responsible for developing and implementing Sainsbury’s digital and cross channel strategy across the business. Prior to joining Sainsbury’s she was vice president, retail at Capgemini and also group commercial director at Argos Retail Group.
Commenting on the appointments Mike Coupe said: “Jon has been instrumental in the recent growth of Ocado and I know he will bring the same commitment, knowledge and enthusiasm to Sainsbury’s. He has all of the skills to take Sainsbury’s online vision to the next stage and I look forward to working with him.”
He added: “Since joining Sainsbury’s Tanya has made a huge impact on our online operation and has taken it from strength to strength. She was instrumental in launching our non-food website and has overseen record growth in our online grocery service. This new role will enable her to focus on the increasingly diverse ways in which our customers will interact with Sainsbury’s in future years. I am sure she will prove to be a huge success in her new position.”
