Pete Mitchell lands Mediacom role

Former Rapp London chief executive Pete Mitchell is understood to have joined Mediacom to head up the agency’s direct division, nearly 18 months after he left the Hammersmith-based business.
Mitchell had served at least a year on “gardening leave”, receiving full pay and benefits. He left Rapp in September 2011, having been at the agency for nearly 14 years.
He started his career at Link House Magazines in Croydon, now part of IPC, and then worked for former WWAV director Ken Mansfield and a number of other media agencies before joining Optimedia, where he became managing director.
Mitchell joined Rapp Media (then WWAV Rapp Collins Media) in 1997 as chief executive and was promoted to chief exec of the whole agency in September 2009.
He had initially taken over the running of the London agency when managing director Samantha Nolan went on maternity leave. When she returned, he was appointed CEO.
At Rapp, Mitchell oversaw the rebrand from WWAV Rapp Collins and had responsibility for the day-to-day running of the agency’s London office.
MediaCom is part of GroupM, WPP’s media operation, along with MEC, Maxus, MindShare, Outrider, Kinetic and IEG. The company currently handles advertising budgets worth more than US$28bn (£17.8bn) for clients such as Dell, Procter & Gamble, Shell and VW Group. It recently revealed that it was rebranding its Mediacom Direct division as Mediacom Response.
