So, another Bank Holiday looms, and thank god for that I say. I need to recharge my batteries, quite literally, because May 25th marked a very important day…and funnily enough I am not talking about the 12 month countdown to the implementation of GDPR – I think we have covered that in more than enough detail, don’t you?
No, dear Busty fans, May 25th also just happened to be the tenth anniversary of the launch of everyone’s favourite adult site, PornHub, and to be honest I have been celebrating with gusto. And it may not surprise you too much that so have the site’s data analysts – the dream job of the data industry.
To celebrate the big day, they have taken a look back at what their users have enjoyed over the past decade. It’s a messy job but someone’s got to do it.
Now as you might imagine, there is something for everyone, and these days it is nearly as popular as Decision Marketing, attracting over 75 million visitors a day.
This being a family magazine, most of the detail is far too risqué for even me to publish but don’t take my word for it, check it our yourself. Suffice to say the most popular category of all time is “Lesbian”, followed by “Milf” and “Amateur”, with “Teen” coming up the rear. But my extensive searches – and I mean very extensive – have so far failed to unearth the legendary “Campaign Sex Tape”, which it is claimed stars three agency chiefs and a senior member of the team. Ah well, I will get to see it one day I’m sure…
So what has this got to do with marketing? Well, according to PornHub vice president Corey Price, it’s all about customer experience. He said: “We’ve steadily improved the experience by tailoring our platform and offering a wide-range of content to adhere to our fans’ specific wants and desires.”
They have also been at the forefront of technology, launching the “Twerking Butt”, setting up a service for the visually impaired, and embracing new developments like VR headsets. Stickiness is still an issue, however; in 2007 users spent 13 minutes per visit, now it’s down to just under 9 minutes.
Still, as part of the celebrations, they’re launching a contest to win one of 100 ten-year memberships to PornHub Premium. To put yourself in the running, you just need to use the hashtag #PHtaughtme and then post a pic or video to explain on social media what exactly you have learned from watching their videos. Good luck with that one.
As a winner you will then be able to use your subscription to watch every single one of the site’s 10 million videos. Apparently it will take a total of 173 years to do, by which time your firm might even be GDPR compliant…
