Dream Team Getaway hits the road to Reino de España

Hola, hola a todos mis seguidores – tanto a los de siempre como a los nuevos – y bienvenidos a la tercera entrega de mis reflexiones sobre las vacaciones de verano del Dream Team.

Yep, you may well have guessed, we have done with the Côte d’Azur, had our fill of Il Bel Paese and now we’ve landed in Reino de España. Sadly, our tour of the Med to check out the top performers on Lovehoney’s latest LibidOlympics chart is drawing to a close. As we have already said, it’s been hard work but someone’s got to do it.

Now, apparently, Catalans, Basques, Galicians, and Andalusians have a reputation for being incredibly romantic, although my search for “The Spaniard” from Gladiator has proved rather fruitless so far.

Luckily we still have CHEESE and I’m reliably informed that Spain exported approximately €881m worth of the stuff last year, with annual volumes typically surpassing 115,000 to 150,000 tons. Not all of it landed in my fridge, but a fair slice…

It ranks globally as a major cheese exporter, sending its products heavily to neighbouring European markets as well as major international destinations like the US.

And, luckily, there is a perfect threesome, which no self-respecting turophile could possibly turn down.

First up we have Manchego, made in the La Mancha region from the milk of sheep of the Manchega breed. It is aged between 60 days and two years. has a firm and compact consistency and a buttery nutty flavour and a subtle, pleasant tang.

Next, you definitely have to munch on Cabrales, a potent, creamy blue cheese aged in natural limestone caves in the Picos de Europa mountains of Asturias. It delivers a sharp, spicy, and deeply pungent flavour.

And to top it off, get your lips around Torta del Casar. Uniquely soft and fluid inside a thick rind, it is curdled using natural cardoon thistle rennet, giving it a rich, buttery, slightly bitter, and herbaceous tang. You slice off the top and scoop out the gooey interior. Oo’er missus.

Naturally, there will be those questioning what our grand tour of the Med has got to do with marketing. Well, to be fair, not a lot but, hey, we are on holiday after all…

Y, a veces, solo a veces, hay que tomarse un respiro del tedioso mundo del marketing, as they say round these parts.

See you back in Blighty!
